Diablo is entering a particularly busy period. At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard officially revealed Diablo V for Spring 2029, while also confirming that the Amazon will return to Diablo IV through a new class pack in the first half of 2027. The redesigned Amazon will support four archetypes—Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger, and Commander—and can wield both bows and the newly introduced javelin weapon type. Before that arrives, however, Diablo IV is celebrating the franchise's 30th anniversary with DIABLO 4 Hell's Legacy, officially launching on September 15, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. PT.

Season of Hell's Legacy brings back Deckard Cain, Diablo, Baal, Mephisto, classic locations, legacy equipment, and a new seasonal progression loop built around demonic Soul Splinters. This guide covers the main DIABLO 4 season 15 updates, gameplay systems, progression changes, and how to play DIABLO 4 season 15 efficiently.

Play DIABLO 4 on phone by OSlink

For PC players who still want to farm or manage their character away from their desk, OSLink can remotely stream the PC version of Diablo IV to a phone or tablet, with customizable controls and controller support. That makes activities such as Helltides, dungeon farming, gear management, and seasonal quests easier to continue while away from the computer.

Hell's Legacy Seasonal Story and Prime Evils

The main gameplay loop in Hell's Legacy begins with a seasonal questline guided by the returned spirit of Deckard Cain.

Players revisit major moments from Diablo history and defeat echoes of:

  • Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral
  • Baal at Arreat Summit
  • Mephisto inside the Durance of Hate

Completing these encounters grants three Splinters of Evil. You can bear one Prime Evil's Splinter at a time, gaining an Iconic Power but also becoming more vulnerable to that demon's associated damage. Diablo grants Fire-based power, while Baal and Mephisto grant Cold- and Physical-based power, respectively.

Each Splinter also changes which endgame activities you should prioritize.

Prime Evil

Activities Enhanced

Diablo – Terror

Helltide, Infernal Hordes

Baal – Destruction

Kurast Undercity, Lair Bosses

Mephisto – Hatred

The Pit, Nightmare Dungeons

All Three

Tree of Whispers

Each reputation path contains eight activity modifiers and six Iconic Power upgrades, so players can choose a seasonal route based on the content they already enjoy farming.

Waking Nightmares

Waking Nightmares are one of the main new DIABLO 4 season 15 gameplay systems.

They come in three sizes.

The largest are multi-level, Capstone-style dungeons recreating famous encounters from earlier Diablo games. After finishing the seasonal questline, they can be replayed on Torment difficulty, with stronger Pinnacle versions available from Torment 10 onward.

Medium Waking Nightmares work more like regular dungeons and can recreate areas such as Diablo II's Den of Evil.

Small Waking Nightmares appear directly in the open world and offer shorter encounters against returning bosses or classic enemy waves.

These activities are also important because the largest Waking Nightmares let you switch which Prime Evil Splinter you are following.

Soul Splinters – Season 15 Build Mechanic

Do not confuse Splinters of Evil with Soul Splinters.

Soul Splinters are seasonal socketable gems for jewelry. You can equip up to three Soul Splinters across available jewelry slots, and every one offers a strong benefit paired with a drawback.

Confirmed Soul Splinters include:

Soul Splinter

Source Theme

Splinter of Anguish

Andariel

Splinter of Sin

Azmodan

Splinter of Lies

Belial

Splinter of Pain

Duriel

Splinter of the Mother

Lilith

Splinter of Hellfire

Na-Krul

Splinter of Damnation

Skarn

Splinter of the Black Soulstone

Black Soulstone

They drop in Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique versions. Duplicate Splinters of the same type and rarity can be combined through Amalgamation in the Horadric Cube to create a higher-rarity version.

That means early Season 15 progression should focus on getting three useful Splinters first rather than immediately chasing perfect Unique versions.

New Gear and Charm Changes

Hell's Legacy introduces nine Legacy Uniques inspired by earlier Diablo games, including Stone of Jordan, Leoric's Crown, In-Geom, The Furnace, Nemesis Bracers, and Messerschmidt's Reaver. Several also exist as Unique Charms.

The Horadric Cube also gains new reroll recipes. Affix Value Reroll can adjust base affixes while protecting important properties such as Greater Affixes, Tempering, and eligible Transfigurations. Horadric Reroll specifically targets Legendary-or-better Charms and Seals without removing their Set Bonuses or Unique/Mythic powers.

Leveling and Farming Changes

Progression in the new DIABLO 4 season should feel faster upon reaching Torment.

Legendary drop rates have been increased in Torment I through V, making it easier to complete important Aspects without relying as heavily on random Cube upgrades. Expert and Penitent difficulties now unlock after completing the Prologue, and higher Torment levels also provide increased bonus experience.

A sensible early route is:

Season Quest → Helltide / Whispers → unlock your preferred Prime Evil route → reach Torment → farm the activities supported by your Splinter → improve Soul Splinters and gear.

Helltide remains attractive for combined EXP, loot, and materials, while Kurast Undercity is useful for fast repeatable progression. The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons become more attractive if you choose Mephisto's Hatred path.

DIABLO 4

War Plans and Alt Progression

War Plans progression is now shared between eligible characters on the same account, although each character can still allocate its own plan separately. This significantly reduces repeated endgame progression when creating alts.

Season 15 also adds Rebirth, allowing an Eternal character to enter the Seasonal Realm at Level 1 while keeping its class, name, appearance, and selected cosmetic preferences. Equipment must be removed before rebirth.

Final Thoughts

DIABLO 4 Hell's Legacy is much more than a nostalgia season. The combination of Prime Evil reputation routes, Waking Nightmares, Soul Splinters, Legacy Uniques, improved Cube crafting, and better early Torment drops directly changes how players level and farm.

The best approach is to complete the seasonal storyline first, choose the Prime Evil path that matches the content you enjoy, secure three useful Soul Splinters, and then concentrate your farming on that activity path.
