With swords, maces, polearms, bows, crossbows, magic weapons, and powerful new endgame upgrades to choose from, finding the right option can be overwhelming, especially for beginners. In this Valheim 1.0 Weapon Tier List, we'll help you pick the best weapon for your adventure.

Valheim 1.0 Weapon Tier ListWhether you're a Valheim 1.0 beginner starting a new world, preparing for a difficult boss, or deciding which weapon deserves your resources, this tier list will help you find the right option for your playstyle. Once you've chosen your weapon, OSLink lets you play Valheim 1.0 remotely on your mobile, giving you a convenient way to practice your attacks, test different weapons, and improve your combat skills even when you're away from your PC.

Valheim 1.0 Weapon Tier List Overview

Valheim 1.0 has a large and diverse weapon selection, with weapons differing in much more than just their damage numbers. A weapon's overall value depends on its damage types, enemy weaknesses and resistances, stamina efficiency, attack speed, reach, special attacks, crowd control, defensive utility, crafting requirements, and how useful it remains as you progress through the game.

Because of that, this Valheim 1.0 weapon tier list ranks individual weapons rather than entire weapon categories. A sword, mace, spear, bow, staff, or other weapon is judged on its own performance rather than receiving a tier simply because its weapon type is generally strong.

Valheim 1.0 Weapon Tier List OverviewThe rankings use three tiers:

  • S Tier – Exceptional: The best weapons in the game. These offer outstanding overall performance, versatility, utility, or endgame value and can remain excellent across a wide range of situations.

  • A Tier – Excellent: Powerful and highly reliable weapons that perform extremely well but may have a few limitations compared with S-tier choices.

  • B Tier – Good: Solid weapons that are effective in the right situations, progression stages, or playstyles, but generally have stronger alternatives available.

Important: A lower tier does not necessarily mean a weapon is useless. Some weapons are designed around specific purposes. For example, an ax can be extremely valuable for woodcutting while being less impressive as a dedicated combat weapon. Likewise, a weapon with lower direct damage can rank highly because of crowd control, defense, elemental effects, or other utility.

This makes it an excellent choice for players who want a powerful weapon that can handle a wide range of combat situations.

Mistwalker

Mistwalker

Best For: General Melee, Exploration, Undead

Key Strength: Slash, Frost and Spirit damage with slowing and Mistlands utility

Mistwalker stands out because it combines several useful damage types with powerful utility. Its Frost damage can slow enemies, while Spirit damage provides additional effectiveness against suitable targets. Its ability to clear the Mistlands mist also gives it value outside direct combat, making it one of the most versatile melee weapons in the game.

Frostner

Frostner

Best For: General Melee, Undead, Bosses

Key Strength: Blunt, Frost and Spirit damage with strong slowing

Frostner is one of Valheim's most versatile melee weapons because it combines three different damage types. This combination gives Frostner excellent matchup flexibility and allows it to remain useful well beyond the stage where it is first crafted.

Staff of Protection

Staff of Protection

Best For: Defensive Builds, Survival, Multiplayer Support

Key Strength: Powerful protective barrier and team utility

Staff of Protection reaches S Tier for a very different reason from conventional damage weapons. Its strength comes from its defensive utility rather than raw DPS. Staff of the Wild

Staff of the Wild

Best For: Crowd Control, Kiting, Enemy Distraction

Key Strength: Powerful rooting and battlefield control
